Today's Letters Inspired Tuesday

Today's Letters: Dear Mr. Moury, this past week you survived my immediate/extended/not-really-family-but we-call-each-other-family, family, picked out a gorgeous necklace for my Christmas gift, AND managed to make my heart melt my showing me once again what a great father you're going to be when you were playing with Logan? Pretty sure I found this more cute than the picture of you in your work van that your sister took and sent to me. Dear douchey guys at Applebees, as much as I despised your conversation tonight at the table next to ours, every single minute made me more and more thankful that I got one of the good ones. I hope all you gentlemen out there don't talk about your lady friends like that. Sheesh! Dear Pawn Stars & Storage Wars, I would give ten fist pumps to find the loot you do! Also, thanks for keeping me pretty entertaining in the process, you may be in the running of my favorite television shows, after the Food Network of course. Dear Bear(who always gets two letters), remember when you said I was, "the best wife you'd ever had." Even though I'm the only wife you've ever had, I still thought that was pretty sweet. Thanks for making me giggle.

Have you ever overheard a really obnoxious conversation in public that you wish you could've just butted in and said, "REALLY?! Are you listening to yourselves?!" If so, how did you stop yourself? I was having difficulty last night biting my tongue...

PS - Please see the inspiration for this post HERE - Tim and Em's blog recently got an amazing face lift if you haven't already seen it! :)

PSS - Could it be? 365 Days in Pictures is back after a long hiatus? YES! :)

The Good, the Bad, and the Sock Swap

The Good
I'm so excited I can barely contain myself!
My very best girlfriend, Kelsy -that's Kelsey with only one E- is coming to stay the weekend with me. We became best friends in college and have remained best friends to this day. However it's tough because she lives about an hour or so away still. She is one of those friends that can tell exactly what I'm thinking or feeling without either of us saying a word. She's always witty, I'm jealous that she's so quick with her words and always knows what to say. She plays hard and loves harder. I can't wait to spend an ENTIRE weekend together!
Cheers to best friends :) She is my favorite thing this week!
This past summer at Jamie and David's wedding, it was hotter than blazes but we still managed to pull of a cute picture :)
G'd up from the feet up! Us - Sophomore year :)
Trying to make ugly faces!

The Bad
Yesterday I yelled at a complete stranger-
over a parking spot.
I know I was completely justified in my argument, but I've never, EVER done anything like that. When it was over, I was shaking and I felt like my blood was boiling. You know when you get a surge of adreniline and then after it's gone you feel - what's the word? - exhausted?
I felt empowered for standing up for myself and awful for screaming in public at a perfect stranger. On my way back to work I started crying, ughhh. It was one of those situations that I wish I could have done over. I don't know what he was going through in his life to make him so sour at that moment. Maybe I should have bit my tongue, maybe not. Either way, I think the fact that it was over a parking spot makes me most upset.
And to top it off, when I was getting back in my car after the scene I had caused, and hit my head - hard - on the top of the door.
Karma?
It's kind of Harry Potter-esque...maybe?

The Sock Swap
Liv over at Simply Sunshine and Daisy's is hosting this really awesome event
A Christmas sock swap :)
Because really? Who doesn't love socks, and Christmas-y ones at that!
So, if you'd like to partake, you can click here OR her button is on the side of my blog :)

Thankful Thursday

31. Love Letters

Did you write love letters when you were younger?
Do you still write love letters?
Have they changed a little?

Getting love letters makes my tummy flutter, my cheeks blush and my heart dance :)

 I absolutely LOVE love letters.

They can come in all different forms:

Letters in the beginning to say I like you

Pictures/Post its just to say I love you

Texts to say I appreciate you

Never underestimate the power of a good love letter, in whatever form it's in.
I am thankful for love letters and hope they never stop coming :)

Ok, Ok, I missed yesterday so this is a DOUBLE Christmas Challenge post to
Welcome December! :)

#8: This one was truly, very hard for me. If you know me even a little you know I am obsessed with Christmas. Not just Christmas day, but the entire season and everything about it. The food, the family, the twinkle lights in downtown Seattle, the candy canes... You name it, I <3 it. However, if I had to choose one thing that I hate, it would be the ugly side of people that comes out around this time of year. Some get nasty, some get bitter, and some are just lonely. It hurts my heart to know this, and I know I can't do anything about everyone that hates the holidays, but hopefully I can spread a little cheer around this time of year to lighten their blow.

#9: For the first time in my life, I made Chex Mix! My great grandfather used to make it by the mounds every holiday season and I absolutely loved it! I tried my hand at it last night, and I must say... YUMMMM! It's like a little piece of the past for me :) Here is the recipe from my Granny, but I'm told it's the same recipe that is on the side of the Chex cereal box. I doubled the recipe and it made a lot! :)

Papa's Chex Mix

Ingredients:

2 cups corn chex
2 cups wheat chex
2 cups rice chex
1 cup mixed nuts or any mixture of nuts you have
1 cup pretzels (bite size or stickd)
1 cup garlic bagle bits
6 tablespoons butter or margarine (papa used margarine)
2 tablespoons worchestershire sauce
1 and 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
3/4 teaspoons garlic powder( add a touch more if you like garlic0
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Directions:
Heat oven to 250 degrees.  In large bowl mix cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips.  Set aside.  Melt butter in oven.  Stir in seasonings.  gradually stir in cereal mixture until evenly coated. Place in cookie sheet.   Bake in oven l hour stirring every 15 minutes (very important).  Spread on paper towels until cool.. Store in airtight container.
Granny's Two Cents:
If you do not have all three kinds of cereal, you can substitute any kind such as cheerios, mini shredded wheats  (not sugar kind)  or any other kind,  This is how Papa and I made it.  There is a microwave recipe but we didnt like the way that came out.  This makes good christmas gifts packed in jars with christmas tops.
PS - 365 Days in Pictures - Please peep what I'm learning to do! Don't judge yet, I'm still practicing! :)
Happy first day of December everyone!!!

So there I was...

**WARNING - this blog may or may not contain a bit of a rant**

So there I was, driving up Highway 18 to work this morning, literally giving myself a pep talk in the car, "C'mon Amanda, you can do this. Ok, here's a dry patch in the road. Ok, that was a little scary but you recovered well. You're almost there..." etc.
Despite the mini heart attack I had when my car hit a little patch of black ice, I made it to work in one piece after not working yesterday, or half of Monday. If you didn't know, I'm TERRIFIED of driving in the snow! And if you're going to make fun of me for not knowing how, Hi, I'm from Washington state, OF COURSE I don't know how to drive in the snow! We only get it one time a year if ever!!! However, I made it, I'm safe, all thanks to my little car that could! It may be fifteen years old, but that little Toyota Camry has still got a little umph :)

I was NOT meant for this kind of weather. As I stood in our room this morning putting on my leggings under my scrubs and lightweight jacket under my heavier jacket, I started to sweat, worrying about my commute. Then I got, excuse my language Mom, pissed because I had all these layers on and I was getting HOT! But, as soon as I stepped outside I regretted those harsh feelings against my layered clothing, they kept me pretty warm in the 12degree F air temperature inside my car.
As for the last couple days, they have been crazy! I had to leave early on Monday due to the snow and our clinic was closed all day yesterday because of it! Thank goodness I have a husband who loves me so (Or maybe he just didn't want to see me hurt myself) hahaha either way, he totally got my car ready to drive last night. This is the snow that was left over, but before this there was at least 6-7 inches piled up on it. Eeek!
Despite the termoil this white stuff has caused me and most of the rest of the pacific northwest, I have to say, it was really beautiful.

I apologize for me rant, and I pinky promise, my post tomorrow will have more of a happy attitude :) After all it is thanksgiving, I'll be giving lots of thanks :)
The Ultimate Thankful Thursday!

PS - 365 Days in Pictures - Sorry Soph, you're just too stinkin' cute! Someday these will be used as blackmail  :)

PSS - I want to send a HUGE Happy Birthday to my girlfriend Erica Werner! I love you so much and hope this year is your best yet! Love you little one!

# 3: Most meaningful/Best gift you've received

I really had to think about this one, because I've received a lot of really great gifts in my twenty three years of life. However, I do have to say the most meaningful gift I have ever received was the year Santa brought me a tether ball.

Obviously if he could see me when I was sleeping and he knew when I was awake, he knew that I LOVED tether ball. I was the tether ball queen at recess in elementary school. I must have been in 3rd or 4th grade that year, I had been wondering where my Dad had disappeared to after we had opened our regular Christmas eve gifts. My mom said he was out in the garage working one something, so I just went along my way, went to sleep, and hoped that Santa brought me exactly what I wanted.

Just recently I told my parents this part of the story, at about 4am that morning, I had woken up in the middle of the night and the anticipation was just killing me, I HAD to know what Santa had brought for me, so I crept out of bed, past my parents bedroom, and into the living room. My heart sank because I didn't see a tether ball anywhere under the tree or next to it. I peeked in my stocking and there was a piece of paper that said "Look outside". I opened the blinds and sure enough, there in our drive way was a homemade tether ball set. It was a tire with cement poured into it and a metal pole stuck in the (now dried) cement with a beautiful golden tether ball hanging from the rope. I had to contain my squeals! I ran back to bed and hopped under the covers. I remember thinking, "Wow, he IS real and he knew exactly what I wanted."

Now, until I found out the truth about Santa, I just always remembered how cool and awesome that gift was. But when my parents broke the news to me I realized that when my dad had "disappeared" after gifts that evening, he was really working at hard and building my tether ball set :) Since then I've always thought I hope that I'm that kind of parent, making my kids hopes and dreams come true like that. Even if it's just an old tire, some cement and a yellow leather ball. It was one of the very best Christmases ever and I definitely used that ball until it went to tether ball heaven!

Thanks Mom and Dad for letting me be a kid, and giving me such memorable Christmases, I'll remember them for the rest of my life. <3

# 1: Christmas/Holiday traditions
I'm actually going to cheat because I literally just wrote a blog about this very same topic! Please see it here

# 2: Black Friday/General Shopping Tips and Tricks
Oooh yes, I LOVE this one!

-STARBUCKS!!!! Obviously, if you are getting up at 3am the morning after you have been in a food coma, you NEED caffeine!

-Wear comfy shoes and clothes! Personally, I get a little warm after the coffee and the crowds of crazed shoppers, so I make sure to dress in layers and wear comfy shoes and/or favorite hard soled slippers :)

-Plot your route! It's better to look at the ads the night before and plot your route, make a list of the things that you are getting at each store. This is going to maximize your time in the store and ensure you leave with what you went in for! :)

-Take back up! Example: Mom, sister, friend, husband(Yeah right, Bryan up at 3am to shop?! Please... LOL) Not only are they there for moral support but they can help give ideas for gifts! My mom is the best at this!

I hope these helped! These are my few tips after years of experience! Check back tomorrow for the most meaningful gift I've ever received, and I can't wait to hear yours too!

PS - 365 Days in Pictures is BAAAACK! Please see my HP7 Experience here! I'm not gonna lie, there is more than one photo because I couldn't choose just one!

Not Julie & Julia's - 'Boeuf Bourguignon'

This is a special early edition of "Favorite Things Friday"
I'm going to share one of my favorite recipes of my Granny's :)

I hope you've all seen this movie, if not, I hope you watch it soon! If you love to cook, bloging and Amy Adams like I do, then this is definitely right up your alley!

I think about this scene in the movie every time I make Boeuf Bourguingnon - because unfortunately I have not mastered the culinary skills to cook that one yet. But my Granny's cheater recipe is just fine with me! And I pronounce it like this "Boof Borginyawn", I can only imagine that it's JUST as tasty :)

Ingredients:
2 cans cream of mushroom soup(COM)
1 cup of red wine
1 pkg of stew meat (they come in different sizes, but the COM/wine mixture will be enough to cover a lot of meat)
a couple TBSP of flour, or enough to coat the meat cubes
about 1 TBSP steak seasoning
Egg noodles

Directions & My two cents
1. Put your stew meat in a heavy duty Ziploc bag and pour enough flour and seasoning in to coat each cube. This is why I can't give an exact amount of those two ingredients.
2. Make sure you have a really hot skillet ready, and brown the meat so each cube is just seared on all sides, do not cook through
3. In a bowl mix the COM and red wine - it will look purple at this point, but don't be alarmed, when it cooks it will turn brown :)
4. Add the meat to the COM and wine mixture and mix together
5. Put it all in a 9x13 casserole dish and cover with foil, bake in a 350degree F oven for two hours
6. Cook the egg noodles according to package when the beef has about 10 more minutes left to cook
7. Serve the meat over the noodles...mmmm the meat should fall apart like butter :) SO yummy, I hope you love this recipe like peanut butter loves jelly!

Thankful Thursday

26. My blog readers - Listen ladies, I don't think you FULLY understand how much I appreciate YOU and your comments. Seriously, one of the brightest spots in my day.
Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!
I try to keep up with most of the comments and to follow you back as well!

27. Black Friday deals - I spy with my little eye something... silver. Can you guess? On Black Friday at Tarjay [Target] they are going to have this little puppy who is normally $90 reduced to $50! Now that's what I'm talking about!

28. Grey's Anatomy - Have you ever had thatONE TV show or movie that just makes you feel good? Or one that reminds you of fun times in your life? Or one that you feel like you are rooting from one character to the next every week? Grey's is that for me. I <3 this show even though there have been major cast changes over the last couple years. It reminds me of sitting on my best friend's bed, on the edge of our seats when Dr. Burke got shot and we all gasped at the same time. It reminds me of family dinner and Catch Phrase nights. Basically, it reminds me of the good times I had while at college. :)

29. Susie (My hair dresser) - It's hard to find a GREAT hair dresser, and let me tell you, Christine found her! Well actually, Susie found Christine, at the bowling alley that they both bowled in. Susie approached Christine and said, "Can I tell you what I'd do with your hair?" Hallelujah! Once you find a great one, you can't ever go to anyone but her and you follow her around to what ever salon she goes to, am I right? Or am I just a nutto?

30. Letters to Me, From Me - I write myself little reminders, love notes if you will, hoping that when I am down or need to be reminded, they are there, in my notes, in my iPhone. See, another reason why I love my iPhone, it's a cheer-er upper! :) For example, this particular note was written back in June, and I just came across it again last night. It's just a quick list of things I try to remember.
-Start knowing why I feel the way I feel, too often my answer is "I don't know", I want to know
-Start feeling more beautiful about myself, I don't need someone to tell me. I'm beautiful inside and out!
-Start focusing on the good things in life
-Pay compliments to people I encounter on a daily basis, you never know if it could brighten up their day
-Look for the good in EVERYONE
-Start each day with a "can do" attitude!

Hope you are having a blessed Thursday, can you believe a week from today is Thanksgiving?! Holy moly! That is the ULTIMATE Thankful Thursday :)
What are you thankful for this week?

PS - Check back tomorrow, I'll be doing a guest blog at

What do "The Holidays" mean to you?

We hear it all the time. In passing, in department stores, on the radio, you name the place, and around this time of year you'll probably hear more than your share. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but it just got me thinking about what do "happy holidays" mean to me? I made a list-ofcourse.

-It's getting the family together for meals
-It's the turkey candle that sits in the middle of the Hordan family table every year that is never to be lit. (except by Bry on accident, he didn't know Mr. Turkey candle was a decoration, not an illumination object
-It's my mom and my joke about putting on our "turkey pants"
-It's waking up at 3am the morning after to go Black Friday shopping, everyone in the world still seems to be sleeping, except us
-It's the lighting of the Christmas tree in downtown Seattle and watching it snow (with bubbles) in Westlake Center
-It's Bryan surprising me with a Christmas tree the first year we had moved out, I didn't think we could afford one but he knew how special it was to me
-It's decorating my very own tree with blue and silver ornaments and white twinkly lights
-It's starting our own traditions
-It's buying gifts and struggling to wrap them -I suck at it! I would rather get gift bags but can't bring myself to do it because watching your family members unwrap gifts seems much more magical
-It's spending Christmas eve with my mom's family, going to church and singing Silent Night by candle light-that's magical
-It's sugar cut-out cookies like Granny makes
-It's spending every Christmas in Las Vegas with my step-dad's family before my grandpa passed away, I know I complained every year, but some great memories were made
-It's the Tom and Jerry drink and breakfast casserole that Bryan's step-grandma makes the morning of
-It's the look on everyone's faces as they open gifts
-It's Christmas evening with Bryan's mom's family - 3 Christmases every year and I love it!
-It's our first holiday season together as a married couple
-It's looking forward to the many to come when we can wake up with our children and watch them open their gifts

These were just a couple things that came to my mind... What does this season mean to you? What traditions have you started with your family? Do you love wrapping up presents while drinking hot cocoa? I hope so :) It's such a lovely time of year, isn't it?

-Bryan and I at Christmas last year [Please note my flip-flops in December!]

What do Cars, Harry Potter, and glass have in common?

My weekend :)

I swear, there is never a dull weekend with us Moury's, we're constantly on the go!
Friday night Bryan and I had a date night, and can I just tell you some of my favorite things about date nights?
-The smells of his cologne and my perfume
(my special perfume that I know he loves)
-laughing as we both get dressed about things that have happened during our day
-making plans about where we're going to eat, both of us saying, "Where do you want to eat?" "No, where do YOU want to eat."
-Bryan taking me to a HUGE neighborhood in our area to show me the gigantic houses he's been working on, I know where we're going to look at Christmas lights this year! :)
-coming home after dinner, having a "sleepover" like I like to call it, curling up under the comfy covers and watching a movie together (PS Holy Rollers - pretty good little independent film!)
-spending the whole night together, just us :)
Mmm, yep, it's the little things that warm my heart <3

Saturday, the day was dedicated to the boys, Bryan and Steven! We hit up the Seattle Auto Show, and let me tell you, it's super funny to watch boys look at all their dream cars. I tried to talk as little as possible so they could soak it all in. However Bry wanted to know what I thought of this car and that car, but really, I just wanted him to enjoy it because this is one of his passions. That afternoon we returned home to our friend's Steven's house, and lo and behold, there is a HP marathon on TV, SCORE! :) Here are a few highlights from our day!

-The boys, drooling over a Lamborghini-
-"Hey Bryan take a picture with me" Creeper Steven in the back ground! LOL
-I saw this and my heart pitter pattered-
-and then THIS! I must be dreaming! The car that Ron flew into the Womping Willow!-

Sunday we spent the morning with Bryan's step-dad, mom, and step brother, in the great city of Tacoma. We had yummy breakfast a local cafe, took a stroll down this beautiful area, and went to the Tacoma Glass Museum. If you look closely in the picture below you can see the Tacoma Dome! :) When we got home, it was a finish the laundry, nap taking, order pizza kind of night - I'm OK with that :)
-A few pictures from Tacoma-
-Caught as Tom and Kim were walking ahead of us, like a quick moment in time:)-
-Just being silly, we were pretending to be store window models haha PS I need a haircut, sheesh!-
-this picture was taken as we crossed the sky bridge that leads to the museum, blown glass is absolutely breathtaking!-
-If you see pictures of the TGM, you most like see pictures of the huge white dome thing behind Shane and Bryan, it's pretty neat!-
-This is inside the dome thing, SO pretty, we sat and watched the masters of glass blowing work at their craft for a good hour, it's so neat!-

I hope you all had a FABULOUS weekend as well! I can't wait to read all of your most recent posts! Can you believe Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK?! Holy fast November flew by with the quickness! That's alright, I'm ready for twinkly light, hot chocolate, and wrapping Christmas gifts!

PS - What are you getting for your husbands/boyfriends/other halves this year? I'd love to start getting some ideas! :) Thank you!

PSS - 365 Days in Pictures - Still going strong! :)
