The house that built me

The House that Built Me

There once was a house that built a woman.

It kept her safe and her secrets.

It held family dinners at the kitchen table and deep conversations in the living room.

It listened to her favorite songs on repeat.

It saw many tears and even more laughter.

It helped raised three children and an orange and black kitty.

It was always the place for her to come and be herself.

It's front porch witnessed her many kisses and a few heartaches.

It helepd her get ready for dances, Friday night football games and her wedding.

It had a bedroom and soft place to lay her head at night.

It stayed warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

It's where she spent endless hours on the phone giggling.

It's where she came home from a hard day at school to her mom sitting at the kitchen table waiting to give her a hug.

It's the house where she realized she'd met her soul mate and where that soul mate came to ask her parents for her hand in marriage - four years later.

It is still and will always be home. I'm thankful.

Is there a house/home/apartment/condo that built you?

PS - thank you to Miranda Lambert's Grammy performance for the inspiration to write this post

  1. i really love this amanda! and really wish i had the same :( to be honest i don't feel like i had a home/house/apartment that built me. we moved so much when i was growing up...5 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and surprisingly only 1 highschool. i think of the home that i was in during highschool as a wonderful place...probably because we stayed for longer than a year :)

i hope when me and matthew start to settle down that we can provide a home to our children that builds them...i can see that it is worth it :) xo

I don't have a house that built me either - same reason as Lindsay...we moved too much!
But I hope to provide one for my daughter!
    Happy V-Day!

  3. One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite country artists!

I've lived in the same house my entire life and as a homebody who didn't have a social or love life in junior high and high school, I have to say that our little 4-bedroom house most certainly built me! My dorms have never really built me - just been a home away from home. My first year in an apartment somewhat built me, although not in a good way. :( I'm hoping my first apartment as a non-college student will change that :)

I have three homes that build me so it would be hard to capture them all, lol! This house is so cute, thanks for sharing your memories in it! :)

  6. I've been loving this song for a few months now...I literally tear up every time I hear it. I lived in two houses growing up, the one I spent my first 11 years in and then another in which I spent the next seven. I think the second was really where I did my growing...looking out my window and figuring out the world! So happy to have found your blog! happy valentine's day! xoxo {av}
